Werner Wolf Glaser

Werner Wolf Glaser ( born April 14, 1913 in Cologne, † March 29, 2006 in Västerås, Sweden ) was a German - Swedish composer, art historian, psychologist and conductor.

Life

Glaser studied at the Musikhochschule in Cologne piano, conducting and composition, then art history in Bonn. Finally, he sat in Berlin his composition studies - among others Paul Hindemith - continued and took on a further study of psychology. From 1929 to 1931 he was conductor at the opera in Chemnitz and came in 1932 as the choir director to Cologne. In the era of National Socialism, he was sold as a Jew from Germany. About Paris, he emigrated to Lyngby, Denmark, and was a lecturer at the Frederik mountain folk high school in Copenhagen. In 1943 he moved to Sweden. From 1944 to 1959 he was conductor at Södra Västmanland Orkesterförbund and managed at the same time as a director until 1975, Västerås Musikskola, where he worked together with Ivar Andrén and Gunnar Axén. He also wrote for the regional newspaper " Vestmanlans Läns Tidning " music reviews.

Glaser has left quite an extensive oeuvre in many genres. The Hindemith'sche school is discernible in his musical language, yet he developed his own style.
