Wes Jackson
Wes Jackson ( b. 1936 near Topeka, Kansas) is an American biologist.
Jackson studied biology and botany in Kansas and Genetics at North Carolina State University. He was a professor of biology at Kansas Wesleyan and at California State University, Sacramento.
In 1976 he founded the " Land Institute " that researches mainly because
- Winter-proof to grow profitable and ecologically sustainable grains,
- To make agriculture through the use of perennial crops more sustainable,
- To find alternatives to the use of fossil fuels in agriculture.
Wes Jackson criticized the present form of agriculture, which results in a reduction of genetic diversity, a leaching of the soil and the destruction of rural areas result. His vision is a sustainable agriculture based on perennial crops and alternative farming methods.
Wes is councilor of the World Future Council.
