Weser-Aller Railway

The Weser -Aller -Bahn is a regional railway line in the north- west of Germany, which connects Rotenburg ( Wümme) in Lower Saxony with Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The designation of the weekend trains running every two hours RB 76 is used by Deutsche Bahn for the Route number 124.

Route

The Weser -Aller -Bahn is part of a direct connection between Hamburg and the Ruhr area, so they especially relieved in freight transport as an alternative route via the route Bremen, Osnabrück and Münster. Also services between Hamburg and Hanover are partially out about them.

The Weser -Aller -Bahn travel on three different railway lines:

  • Between Verden ( Aller) and Nienburg / Weser Weser -Aller uses the train the train track Wunstorf -Bremen, which was built in 1847 by the Royal Hanoverian State Railways for connection of Bremen in the Hannöversche railway network.
  • 1928 finally built the German State Railroad Company rail line Verden -Rotenburg as a compound of the above railway line and the railway line pan - Eickelmann -Hamburg.

Current operating

The route is no longer operated since December 9, 2007, Monday to Friday throughout. On the leg Rotenburg - Verden run every two hours regional trains of DB Regio Nord ( DB class 628). The section Verden - Nienburg is operated as a subsection of the relation Hannover -Bremen hourly from RE trains. On the Nienburg Minden - section in turn driving every two hours RE trains operated by DB Regio NRW. Exist in Verden connections to RE- trains and S-Bahn Bremen Bremen or Hannover Nienburg - exist in Nienburg connections to RE- trains and S -Bahn to Hannover or Hanover -Bremen Verden. On weekends, there is still a continuous connection Minden- Rotenburg with connections to Hamburg. For this modernized n- car - pull trains and DB Class 143 can be used. The average speed of the continuous RE trains is 67 km / h

The section Rotenburg - Verden as a detour route for long-distance traffic between Hamburg, Hanover outstanding importance. This single-track section is therefore very often locked for regional traffic and train services replaced by buses, as the use by IC or ICE trains no additional regional transport permits ( blocking inter alia August-December 2010).

The line is called in North Rhine-Westphalia as RB 76. The trains on weekdays ( Mon-Fri) are bound by about Minden also as Porta- Express ( RE 78 ) to Bielefeld. This case to the vehicles of the series 425

Future

After the 2004 Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2003 and the Federal Railway Infrastructure Development Act, a continuous double-track lines is provided, the implementation is not in sight, however, in 2010. According to a newspaper report of March 2007, the planning of the route will be suspended until at least 2011.

As a result of the reduction of regionalization means also a possible setting of RB 76 was tested for the timetable change in December 2007 by the State of Lower Saxony. This section of the Minden- Nienburg only in freight transport and the section would Verden -Rotenburg (Wümme ) was operated in freight transport and as a detour route for long-distance traffic. The few years ago, capital expenditures for the re- commissioning and generous expansion of the station Peter -Lahde would lapse. While a complete cessation of transport is currently not up for discussion, but will have to reckon with the thinning of the offer on weekdays. As a first step, the line was broken in December 2007. It drive Monday to Friday trains from Rotenburg to Verden and from Nienburg towards Minden and on to Bielefeld ( continuous operation of the existing " Porta- Express" RE 78). In Verden and Nienburg made connections to the RE trains Hanover and Bremen. The driving time from East Westphalia (including Bielefeld) in the direction of Bremen will be shortened slightly, is produced in the direction of Hamburg with trip trip over Bremen, a traveling time extension of up to one hour. A cheap connecting flight Bielefeld Nienburg - Verden -Rotenburg was not until December 2010. The weekend operation remained unchanged at first, so it go as far through trains Rotenburg - Minden, however, the plans envisage an operation by the " Porta- Express" also on weekends and that the final division of the originally continuous operation before.

The trains are on weekends and holidays because of the use of travelers from East Westphalia in Hamburg well filled (with DB- weekend ticket and Niedersachsen-Ticket ) in the week, however, only a small load is given. This is due to, among other things, the necessary two-time or three-time change to the connection Hamburg- Bielefeld. The breaking of the line results in a significant loss of appeal of this relation. Since ridership between Minden and Nienburg - only two intermediate stops in rural areas are served - is relatively low, the route can in the long run only be secured with the traveler in the direction of Hamburg. The took place in December 2007 weekday clock shift by one hour on the Part Nienburg - Minden ( Bielefeld ) led for travelers to / from Hamburg to long transition periods in Verden. The attractiveness of this compound is no longer given a detour via Bremen or Wunstorf was inevitable for these passengers.

The stock of the route in the transport must be seen as endangered. Already a through train services between Bielefeld and Rotenburg ( Wümme) would be likely to attract travelers on this route, as the detour routes via Uelzen, Bremen Wunstorf or mean time losses. The Fahrgastverband Traffic Club Germany proposes to improve the line, to link it with the RB Hamburg- Tostedt and the RE Minden- Bielefeld ( - Dusseldorf ) to a passage connecting Hamburg- East Westphalia.

The doubling of the lines Rotenburg - Verden ( Aller) and Nienburg (Weser ) Minden is part of the destination network, which has been defined in relation to the Y- route Hamburg / Bremen and Hannover. The route is as urgent requirement in the bill on the development of the railways. The investment volume for the 77 -km-long overall measure to Verden -Rotenburg and a design speed of 120 km / h, according to FTIP 348 million euros.
