West Bank Story is an American short film directed by Ari Sandel from the year 2005.

Action

The film is a parody of the musical West Side Story, an adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet in New York in the 50s. The action takes place in the West Bank (West Bank) the present and portrays the romance between the Israeli soldier David ( Ben Newmark ) and the Palestinian saleswoman Fatima ( Noureen DeWulf ). Their feuding families operate on the same street Falafelrestaurants. David's family operates the Kosher King, when the family is purchasing a new machine and this extends to the property of the Hummus Hut after construction, the hummus Hat employee sabotage the machine. The situation escalated and at the end of David's family builds a wall between the two restaurants, while Fatima's family responds with violence. As a result, both restaurants are destroyed. Through the love between David and Fatima, the families are united, who decide to build a common restaurant and operate.

The screenplay was written by Ari Sandel and Kim Ray, was proziert the film by Bill Boland, Ashley Jordan, Amy S. Kim, Ravi Malhotra, Ari Sandel and Pascal Vaguelsy. Choreography is by Ramon Del Barrio responsible.

Reviews

In the output of the cinema magazine The Fabulous Picture Show of the news channel Al Jazeera English on 25 August 2007, the film was broadcast in full length. The transmitter invited some Israeli and Palestinian youth, to view the film and discuss it. Al Jazeera director the opportunity to comment on the discussion. Out of the film was to be seen in full on You Tube, in a revised version of the video is not the case anymore.

Awards

The film premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and was screened at many other film festivals around the world. The film won several film awards, including at the Oscar ceremony 2007 Oscar for Best Short Film.
