West Carroll Parish, Louisiana
The West Carroll Parish (French: Paroisse de Carroll Ouest ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 11,604 inhabitants and a population density of 12.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Oak Grove.
Geography
The Parish is located in northeastern Louisiana is bordered to the north by Arkansas, to the east is about 30 km from Mississippi and has an area of 933 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered by the following Parishes and Counties:
History
The North Louisiana was inhabited in prehistoric times. In West Carroll Parish is Poverty Point, an archaeological site and a memorial to singular earthworks of the so-called after the place where Poverty Point Culture at the end of the Archaic period between the 18th and 10th century BC The Parish in 1877 from parts of the Carroll Parish formed.

According to the census in 2000 lived in West Carroll Parish 12,314 people in 4,458 households and 3,249 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 79.89 percent White, 18.88 percent Black or African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.43 percent from other races groups; 0.41 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.35 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 4,458 households out of which 33.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.8 percent were married couples living together, 12.3 percent were single mothers, 27.1 percent were non-families, 24.8 percent of all households and 13.8 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.09.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 25.6 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.5 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 15.5 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 24,637, and the median income for a family was $ 31,806. Males have a median income of $ 28,211, women $ 18,477. The per capita income was $ 12,302. 18.2 percent of families, 23.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 30.8 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 22.3 percent of those 65 years.
