The West Galena Township is one of 23 townships in Jo Daviess County in the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Illinois.

Geography

The West Galena Township is located in northwest Illinois on the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa. The southeastern boundary of the Township is formed from the Galena River. The border with Wisconsin is located about 15 north of the township.

The West Galena Township is located at 42 ° 24'16 " north latitude and 90 ° 27'33 " west longitude and extending over 28.99 km ², spread over 24.59 km ² land and 4.4 km ² water surface.

The West Galena Township borders Jo Daviess County within the northwest by the Menominee Township, on the north by the Rawlins Township, on the east by the East Galena Township, and to the southeast by the Rice Township. At the township opposite shore Mississippi in Iowa are the Dubuque and Jackson County.

Traffic

By West Galena Township Township leads the the Illinois section of the Great River Road forming U.S. Highway 20, which on the same route as the Illinois Highway 84 runs here.
