West Hawk Lake

Impact crater; deepest lake in Manitoba; outflow regulated

The West Hawk Lake is an almost circular lake in southeastern Manitoba, Canada. Some small side bays extend across the province of Ontario border.

The West Hawk Lake is located in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. The Trans-Canada Highway runs along the south shore of the lake. There is also the place West Hawk Lake ( unincorporated area).

The lake is located in the area of the Canadian Shield. It has an area of 14.9 km ² and lies at an altitude of 329 m. At 111 meters it is the deepest lake in Manitoba.

Below the central part of the West Hawk Lake is a crater, which was formed 351 ± 20 million years. The crater has a diameter of 2.44 km.

The lake is drained by the Whiteshell River from east to north. At the outflow is the West Hawk Lake Dam, which regulates the amount of water flowing out.
