West Rand District Municipality
West Rand ( West Rand District Municipality engl. ) is a district in the South African province of Gauteng. The administrative headquarters is located in Randfontein. Faith Matshikiza is the mayor. The ANC represents the majority in the Council of the District.
The name of the district comes from its location to the west of the Witwatersrand. 2007, the district according to projections 539 038 inhabitants. It covers an area of 4066 square kilometers.

The most important places in the district are Battery, Bekkersdal, Carletonville, Elberta, Finsbury, Glenharvie, Hekpoort, Hermina, Hill Haven, Jagfontein, Kockoord, Krugersdorp, Lebanon, Luipaardsvlei, Magaliesburg, Mohlakeng, Muldersdrif, Nooitgedacht, Randfontein, Thorndale, Venterspos and Westonaria.
Economy
Most of the economic activities is part of the services sector ( 63 percent of GDP in the district ). The mining industry, once the economic mainstay of the region, decreases over in importance.
