Geography
West St. Paul is located in the southern suburban area of Saint Paul, near the Mississippi River at 44 ° 54'58 " north latitude and 93 ° 06'06 " west longitude. The city spans 12.98 km ².
Neighboring cities of West St. Paul Saint Paul are ( at the northern city limits ) South St. Paul ( on the eastern city limits ), Inver Grove Heights (11.1 km to the southeast ), Sunfish Lake (6.1 km south) and Mendota Heights ( on the western and south-western city limits ).
The downtown Minneapolis is located 21.2 kilometers north-west; the center of Saint Paul, the capital of Minnesota, located 7.7 km north.
Traffic
Along the eastern border runs with the four-lane U.S. Highway 52 one of the southern arterial roads of Saint Paul. The Minnesota State Route 13 reaches its northern terminus at the confluence with the Minnesota State Route 149 in aüßersten north-west of the metropolitan area. The Minnesota State Route 110 forms the border city in the extreme southwest. All other roads are minor roadways or urban roads.
The nearest airport is located 6.8 km north-east of St. Paul Downtown Airport; the greater Minneapolis -Saint Paul International Airport is 14.3 kilometers west.
History
Until the mid-19th century, the region of Dakota Indians was settled.
The first white settlers arrived in 1848. 1855 was started with the scheduled settlement. First time in 1958, a municipality was founded with the name of West St. Paul. Here, however, it was the part of the present city area of Saint Paul, which is west of the Mississippi.
1887, the city of South St. Paul was founded, which also included the present-day city of West St. Paul. In 1889, the western portion was separated and the present town West St. Paul was born.
According to the municipal constitution ( City Charter ) of 1907, the city faces a Mayor and seven City Council members, who are elected. In 1962, the function of the City Manager was added so that the mayor and City Council are the legislative and the City Manager of the executive projects.

According to the census in 2010 lived in West St. Paul 19,540 people in 8529 households. The population density was 1505.4 people per square kilometer. In the 8529 households lived statistically 2.25 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 78.0 percent white, 6.0 percent African American, 0.9 percent Native American, 2.2 percent Asian, 0.1 percent and 8.6 percent Polynesians from other ethnic groups; 4.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 19.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
22.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 60.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 17.0 percent were 65 years or older. 52.4 percent of the population was female.
The median annual income for a household was $ 46,730. The per capita income was $ 28,431. 7.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
