Westeifel

Under the name Westeifel that part of the Eifel is subsumed, which lies within the city of Prüm to the border of Belgium and Luxembourg. However, it is not geographically clearly defined ( it is consistent to about 60 % with the snow Eifel), while the geology maps the northern part of the region corresponding to the volcanic Eifel region and the southern part of the South Eifel.

The summit plain achieved something greater heights than the volcanic Eifel region, however, is mostly smooth shape. Geographically - topologically, one can distinguish three areas:

  • Belgian Eifel - no uniformly used term
  • Islek ( in the southwest ) - to the German- Luxembourg border.

The region is sparsely populated in the north ( Schneifel may ), but is intersected by the highway 60 to Malmedy. It is heavily wooded and has some significance for the mining industry (see Bleialf ). In the southern part - in the Valley of Prüm and its side valleys - there is denser settlement and some tourism, which is funded by the South Eifel holiday route and the Green Street Eifel- Ardennes. This land belongs to the German - Luxembourg Nature Park.
