Western Regions

The traditional Chinese term Xiyu (Chinese西域, Pinyin Xiyu, "Western Regions " or "Western Areas" ') refers to those areas which, during the Han period to the west of Yumenguan Pass (Chinese玉门关/玉门关, Yumenguan Pinyin, English Jade Gate ) and the Yangguan pass (阳 关/阳 关, Yangguan ) were, including present day Xinjiang and part of Central Asia.

With a newer understanding of East and West, the term has nothing to do.
