Western Rocks, Isles of Scilly

The Western Rocks are an uninhabited group of islands in the west of the Isles of Scilly in Cornwall. The more than 15 rocky islands are located southwest of St. Marys and north of Bishop skirt. The resulting in carbon islands are part of the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust and protected since 1971 by the Site of Special Scientific Interest ( SSSI ) due to the locally very rare seabird colonies. Because of the many shoals in the Western Rocks, there were repeated shipwrecks. In particular, the demise of an English squadron under the command of Cloudesley Shovell in 1707, in which 1,450 seamen died, is remarkable.

Among the Western Rocks include, in addition to the largest island Rosevear, Great Crebwethan Codnors Rocks, Crebwethan, Jolly skirt, Jacky's Skirt, Silver Carn, Gorregan and Melledgan.
