Westerpark (former borough)

Westerpark is a neighborhood of the Dutch capital Amsterdam, North Holland Province and belongs to the municipality of Amsterdam West.

Westerpark has about 35,000 inhabitants of which approximately 50 % are foreigners. The surface is 10.96 km ², 0.76 km ² of which are water. Westerpark is located near the center. The quarter- state songs, Spaarndammer, Zeehelden and Hugo de Grootbuurt form the district. 1883 has been set up on the grounds of " Westergasfabriek " a combination of nature and culture. On 13 hectares are restaurants, found a place of event ( for example, Music ), a " theater village", sports facilities and various small gardens or green spaces. In the 19th century, stood in this field is still 26 wind mills, of which there is only one, De Otter. It is the oldest wood saw windmill in the Netherlands.

The eponymous park in the district is a popular tourist destination, which can be well explored by boat.
