Westford (Massachusetts)

Westford is a town in Middlesex County ( Massachusetts), which is located about 5 km south of the Merrimack River.

History

In the 18th and 19th century granite, apples and worsted were the main products of the place. After the Civil War, the inhabitants were partially active in Lowell (Massachusetts ), and later in Boston. Several churches were built, including the Catholic St. Catherine's Church. In the 1960s, the city was one of the locations in which research on the Project West Ford were performed. The population, which stood until the Second World War 5000, rose by 2000 to more than 20,000.

Policy

The official rules and regulations are set by five elected persons. For the daily management of a manager is hired. The inhabitants can participate in meetings, in which coordinated among other things, the financial budget, to help shape the urban policy in the spring and fall.

Economy and infrastructure

Among the companies based here counts Puma ( sports articles), whose North American headquarters is here. There are several primary schools and one high school. U.S. Highway 3 runs as well as several local roads here.

Sight

The Westford Museum has several permanent exhibitions, such as the earlier granite processing, the fire department, to the former doctors, the old school and agriculture, and also temporary exhibitions, such as the previous mode. Some other buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places.
