History

The cemetery was for sure though not directly related to the present location west home, but with a settlement in the area of higher ground above the flood plain, where the two ancient Roman roads Geilsheim - Hüssingen and Gunzenhausen Nördlingen crossed. The originally more than 250 graves include men 's, women's, and children's burials, and two horse burials. The cemetery was used not later than the beginning of the 6th century (ca. 520-530 ) to at least the second half of the 7th century. Then, the place seems to be deserted like before the grave goods ends in southern Germany. Striking is the high number typical Franconian weapons, such as Franziska and Ango, and the nine Münzgräber. Among them were three Roman denarii from the 3rd century and five half - Gothic Siliquen of Amalasunta Witiges and Totila, which probably served as Charonspfennige.

Furthermore, the remains of a small early medieval church were discovered on the outskirts of West home. It was built around the year 600 and thus represents together with the Solnhofen in one of the oldest churches in the region dar. Meanwhile, a reconstruction of the church was built, which can be visited. The church was once probably the settlement to which the cemetery is likely to have heard. With the establishment of a royal court in West home, the earlier settlement became less important and was eventually abandoned in favor of the settlement around the church of St. Pancras.

West home belonged to the Principality of Ansbach in 1792 acquired by Prussia, which belonged to the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500. With the Act of Confederation in 1806 the place came to the Kingdom of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.
