Wetaskiwin

Wetaskiwin [ wɛtæskəwən ] is a small town in Alberta, Canada. It is located approximately 70 km south of Edmonton. The city's name derives from the Cree word from wītaskīwin - ispatinaw ( "Hill of Peace").

Wetaskiwin is located in an area that once was the coast of an ocean that covered large parts of Alberta millions of years ago. The north-western area of Wetaskiwin is characterized by sandy hills, while the area to the south is flat and rather muddy.

Wetaskiwin is also the name of a state constituency in Canada. Like most rural areas in Alberta Wetaskiwin tends to be very conservative to vote. In the election in Canada in 2004, the local Conservative candidate received almost 74 % of the votes cast, while slightly less than 12 % was attributable to the candidate of the liberals.

In Wetaskiwin is the Reynolds - Alberta Museum, a large museum on the subject of industrialization in Alberta, and the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame.

Wetaskiwin is characterized to have the highest number of cars sold per capita in Canada. This is mostly caused by a collaboration of auto dealers along the so-called car mile, which produce the city tailored advertising campaigns.
