When Dream and Day Unite (English for "When dream and day unite " ) is the first studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater. It was published on 6 March 1989 and is still the only album the group, which has no song with a length of over 10 minutes.

Background

The album was recorded in summer 1988 by the Kajem / Victory Studios in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. It is the only album of the band with vocalist Charlie Dominici, who was already replaced in the second Dream Theater album of James LaBrie.

Shortly after the recording of the album the band decided to rename the name of "Majesty " in " Dream Theater " as a band with the same name already existed.

On 2 March 2002, a revised version of the album has been released. For the 15th anniversary of the album led Dream Theater When Dream and Day Unite in Los Angeles. Two songs were played at the concert with the former band members Charlie Dominici and Derek Sherinian. The whole scene was recorded and later appeared on the CD and DVD When Dream and Day Reunite by the band's own label YtseJam Records.
