Wherever I May Roam is a song by American heavy metal band Metallica. It was published in 1992 as a single from her also known as the Black Album self-titled album. It reached the charts in many countries, such as in the UK on 25th place in the Billboard Hot 100, it reached # 82 The piece was also its name to the following tour for the album, the Wherever -We- May- Roam tour.

Music style

The piece has an unusual instrumentation in the Asian instruments such as the gong and sitar were used. In addition, Jason Newsted played during the intro to accentuate a twelve string electric bass from Warwick, as it appears on the DVD Classic Albums: Metallica - Metallica said. In the rest of the piece an ordinary bass with four strings will be used. The strings are in normal tuning ( EADGBE ).

Background

Wherever I May Roam is about life on tour. Lars Ulrich said:

" ... I think that the origin of the title comes from the times when we toured through Europe in the same bus with the roadies, the other bands that were on the program, and other people who have managed between enter the gigs ... "

He had to ignore what was happening around him to get by on the tour. He referred to this as groupies, parties, drugs and the like.

Performance

The piece is played regularly for Metallica concerts. On the DVD S & M is a version with orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen.

Re-use

  • The piece is in the video game Guitar Hero: Metallica included.
  • In the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos cites a bandit unit the song " Roamer, wanderer, nomad, vagabond, call me what you want", and the Beastmaster Hero says: " Where I lay my head is home. See that rock? That's my pillow. " The first part of the latter utterance also comes from the song.
  • An instrumental version is on the album Hands Without Shadows of guitarist Michael Angelo Batio.
  • Sinner who covered the song on A Tribute to the Four Horsemen.
  • Apocalyptica played after the song on Plays Metallica by Four Cellos.
  • The piece was sampled by Chase & Status for the dubstep single Saxon.
  • The piece is also used as Torhymne the Toronto Maple Leafs.
