Whistler-Blackcomb

Whistler -Blackcomb is a ski resort, which is located in Whistler, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It consists mainly of a few large hotels, restaurants and holiday homes. The village is 675 meters above sea level and is located about 126 kilometers from Vancouver.

Two mountains are developed for winter sports, Whistler Mountain ( 2182m ) and Blackcomb Peak ( 2440 m). The highest point that can be reached by ski lift, is located on the Blackcomb Peak at an altitude of 2184 meters above sea level. The ski area is accessed by 24 main ski lifts. The ski slope with the greatest height difference of North America (1609 meters ) is located on Blackcomb. Whistler -Blackcomb, the largest ski area in North America, covers an area of ​​about 22 square kilometers.

The Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Peak are connected by the cable car Peak 2 Peak Gondola. For the 4.4 km long route a gondola requires about eleven minutes. The railway was inaugurated in December 2008.

On the Blackcomb Peak ( summit) there is a glacier on the June-August summer skiing is possible.

Whistler -Blackcomb hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver for alpine skiing competitions.
