Stainless cap parrot ( Pionites leucogaster )

The rust cap parrot ( Pionites leucogaster ) is a species of parrot from the genus of white-bellied parrots.

Appearance

The rust cap parrot reaches a total length of 23 centimeters. The plumage is orange at apex, neck and ear-coverts. The reins, throat and sides of the head are yellow. At the back, wings, and legs as well as the body sides and the upper tail feathers is green blanket. The under wing-coverts are also green. The under tail ceiling is colored yellow. On the chest and abdomen feathers are creamy white. The primary coverts and primaries are provided blue violet and a green border. The beak is horn colored and the feet pink. The iris of parrots rust cap is red.

Young birds see the adult birds similar, but they have a brownish crown and nape, which is interspersed with scattered black feathers. The upper mandible has a gray sign off at the base. The feet are gray and the iris is brown.

Way of life

The rust cap parrot inhabits tropical rain forests and forest edges. He seems to prefer tree stands in the vicinity of water. In family groups, in pairs or in small flocks of rust cap parrot goes in search of food. When the birds are foraging in the dense branches, they can be found due to its penetrating vocalizations.

Population

The size of the grid cap Parrot population is stable in most parts of the range. In parts of Brazil the stock because of there ongoing deforestation has decreased slightly. In Peru and Brazil, the parrots live in protected national parks and nature reserves.

In addition to the nominate form, the Greenshank rust cap parrot ( Pionites leucogaster leucogaster ), two subspecies are known:
