White County (Georgia)

The White County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cleveland.

Geography

The County is located in the north of Georgia, is in the north about 40 miles from North Carolina to the east and about 50 miles from South Carolina. It has an area of 627 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers is water area, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Habersham County, Hall County, Lumpkin County, Union County and Towns County.

History

White County was formed on 22 December 1857 as 123 County Georgia from portions of Habersham County. It was named after David T. White, a later representatives of the County.

The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.91.

23.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.2 percent between 18 to 24, 27.8 percent between 25 and 44, 25.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.6 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.8 males.

The median income for a household was $ 36,084, and the median income for a family $ 40,704. Males had a median income of $ 29,907, women $ 22,168. The per capita income was $ 17,193. 8.4 percent of families and 10.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
