White County (Tennessee)

White County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sparta.

Geography

The County is located east of the geographic center of Tennessee and has an area of 983 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bledsoe County, Cumberland County, DeKalb County, Putnam County, Van Buren County and Warren County.

History

White County was formed on September 11, 1806 from parts of Smith County. It is controversial, was named after whom the County. The official records indicate it since according to John White (1751-1846), named the first coming from European settlers in the area, which was in 1789 immigrated with his family from Virginia coming in the Cumberland Mountains.
