White Croats

Chorvaten (also: Choir Wade ) was a East Slavic ethnic group in the so-called Primary Chronicle as Хровате Бѣлии ( White Croats ) is mentioned. They settled later Lesser Poland, Silesia, Lusatia and Bohemia those regions. The Western White Croats ( Chorvaten ) to Krakow were distinguished from the black or eastern Chorvaten. The Bohemian Choir Wade were referred to the year 900 as Horithi, a deed of 1086 calls Ghrovati, and also the name of the town in the north of Bohemia Chorvatice could refer to this ethnic group.

A relationship of the choir wading with the Croats is investigated. In De imperio administrando the names Χρωβάτοι form appears.

The name of several places could refer to this ethnic group: Charvátice in northern Bohemia, pagus Chrouuati northwest of Sankt Veit an der Glan, the Chrowat area west of Leoben, the places Krobathen, Krottendorf and herb Kogel in Carinthia, the place Hrvati in Bitola in Macedonia, Harvati and Harvation in Attica (Landscape), and much more.
