White Mountain Peak, the highest mountain in the White Mountains

The White Mountains ( German "White Mountain " ) is a 100 km long and 15 km wide mountain range in California. To the north, extending just over the border to Nevada in; in the south they end at Big Pine. In the West, the Owens Valley is adjacent to the White Mountains. The highest mountain is 4344 m height of the White Mountain Peak; it is the third highest mountain in California.

In the dry climate of the White Mountains there is relatively little tree plantings. On conifer species pine species here are mainly Bristlecone Pine, the Nevada - stone pine (Pinus flexilis ), the lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta ) and the one-sheeted Pine ( Pinus monophylla ) and the Wacholderart Juniperus osteosperma.

The White Mountains are part of the Inyo National Forests, a National Forest.
