White River (Yukon)

BW

The White River ( English for " White River ") is a 265 km long river, which has its origin at the Russell Glacier in Alaska and from there into the Yukon Territory (Canada) flows, and finally empties into the Yukon River.

He was given the name due to its coloring by entrained sediment. The river receives over the Donjek River glacier water from Kluane Lake and feeds this into the Yukon River. The delta of the Yukon River are well spread out and is constantly changing, as the White River sediments tons of leads every day with them. From this point, the mouth of the Yukon River water is no longer usable as unfiltered drinking water due to the turbidity due to sediments. The catchment area is 50,500 km ², of which 12.5 thousand km ² in Alaska. The Alaska Highway crosses near the Canadian Beaver Creek settlement the river on its single bridge.
