Whitley County (Kentucky)

Whitley County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Williamsburg. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Kentucky, is bordered to the south by the State of Tennessee and has an area of ​​1153 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Laurel County, Knox County, Bell County and McCreary County.

History

Whitley County was formed on January 17, 1818 from parts of Knox County. It was named after Colonel William Whitley, who died in the war of 1812.
