Who's Who

Who's who? is a personal encyclopedia. It is the German equivalent of the English Who's Who.

History

The first edition was in 1905 by Herrmann AL Degener under the title Who is it? Contemporaries lexicon published. It appeared that further editions, the ninth in 1928 nor during the Republic. In the era of National Socialism appeared in 1935, the tenth edition. After the Second World War, the number 1951 under the present title Who's who continued. Publisher was up to the sixteenth edition (1970 ) of the Arani -Verlag in Berlin, then to the nineteenth edition (1977 ) of the Societäts -Verlag in Frankfurt. Since 1979, appears Who's who? Schmidt - Römhild in Lübeck.

The 49th edition was published in 2010. It contains approximately 30,000 short biographies and about 1,800 portraits. Listed are living public figures who have " rendered considerable services and have thus become known ," according to editors.

2011 appeared the anniversary edition ( 50th edition ), containing about 25,000 short biographies of about 1,300 portraits.

The work is also available to buy as a CD -ROM as well as a charge over the Internet.

Recording

According Publisher may be included in Who's Who? not be bought. There are only included individuals who have achieved important benefits and are thus known. The persons covered only then out again if they are retired or died. On this basis, people who are believed to be receptive to, pay for their entry.

As well as the color display of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
