Wiang Chai District

Amphoe Wiang Chai ( in Thai: อำเภอ เวียงชัย ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the central part of the province of Chiang Rai. The Chiang Rai province is located in the extreme north of the northern region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from west clockwise): Amphoe Mueang Chiang Rai, the, Wiang Chiang Rung, Phaya Meng Rai and Thoeng Chiang Rai province.

An important river of the district is Maenam Kok (Kok River ).

History

Wiang Chai was established as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) on June 17, 1974 consisting of the three Tambon Wiang Chai Thung Ko Pha Ngam and which were cleaved from the district Mueang Chiang Rai. On 25 March 1994 Wiang Chai received the full Amphoe status.

Management

The circle is divided into five subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 70 villages ( Muban ).

Wiang Chai has a small-town status ( thesaban tambon) and covers parts of the tambon Wiang Chai and Mueang Chum.

There are also five " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

The missing numbers refer to tambon which now form the circle Wiang Chiang Rung.
