Wiang Pa Pao District

Amphoe Wiang Pa Pao ( Thai: อำเภอ เวียงป่าเป้า ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the southwestern province of Chiang Rai. The Chiang Rai province is located in the extreme north of the northern region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Mae Suai and the Phan, Chiang Rai Province, Wang Nuea and Mueang Pan of Lampang province, as well as Doi Saket and Phrao the province of Chiang Mai.

History

Wiang Pa Pao (now Mae Suai ) was established in 1907 as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) of the circle Mae Prik. Wiang Pa Pao in 1932 received the full Amphoe status.

Attractions

  • National Parks: Khun Chae National Park ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ ขุน แจ ) - of the 270 sq km park was opened in 1995. It takes its name from Khun Chae Waterfall ( น้ำตก ขุน แจ ). Also worth seeing: the 2,031 meter high Doi Langka ( ดอย ลังกา ), Thailand's fifth- highest mountain and the forest trail at Doi Mod ( ดอย มด ).

Management

The circle is divided into seven subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 92 villages ( Muban ).

There are two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Wiang Pa Pao ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เวียงป่าเป้า ) consists of parts of the tambon Wiang.
  • Mae KHACHAN ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่ ขะ จาน ) consists of parts of the tambon Mae Chedi.

In addition, there are seven " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
