Wiang Sa District, Surat Thani

Amphoe Wiang Sa ( Thai: เวียงสระ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the southeastern province of Surat Thani. The Surat Thani Province is located in the southern region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighbouring districts (from west clockwise): Amphoe the Phrasaeng, Khian Sa and Ban Na San in the province of Surat Thani, and Amphoe Phipun, Chawang and Tham Phannara the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The Maenam Tapi ( Tapi River ) forms the western boundary of the district. Smaller rivers in the district are the Khlong Nam Thao ( คลอง น้ำ เฒ่า ), the Khlong Tan ( คลอง ตาล ) and the Khlong Chanuan ( คลอง ฉนวน ). To the west of the county the land falls to the Tapi level, while in the east are the hills of the Nakhon Si Thammarat - mountain range.

The north-east of the circle is in the National Park Tai Rom Yen: protected ( Thai อุทยานแห่งชาติ ใต้ ร่มเย็น ).

History

Wiang Sa was originally after the fall of the Srivijaya Empire, the end of the 13th century, a small city-state ( Mueang ) in the Kingdom of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

During the Thesaphiban management reform end of the 19th century it was converted into a district called Khlong Tan ( คลอง ตาล ). Shortly thereafter, in 1896, Wiang Sa, however, was downgraded to a tambon in district Lamphun, today's Amphoe Ban Na San. On March 10, 1968, Wiang Sa to a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) by the Tambon Wiang Sa and Thung Luang Amphoe were separated from Ban Na San. On November 17, 1971 Wiang Sa was promoted to Amphoe.

Amphoe Wiang Sa was a center of the uprising of the Communist Party of Thailand against the government during the 1970s. On February 16 communist fighters killed Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit here, a confidant of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of maid of honor who are dedicated to the development of the provinces in the south. She was with a helicopter on the way to bring supplies to support the Border Patrol Police.

Attractions

  • National Parks: National Park Tai Rom Yen ( Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ ใต้ ร่มเย็น ) - 425 km ² park was opened 31 December 1991. He has numerous waterfalls, such as the 22 -step Dard - Fa Waterfall ( Thai: น้ำตก ดาดฟ้า ).

Management

Amphoe Wiang Sa consists of five sub-districts ( tambon), which further into 64 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

There are three small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Wiang Sa consists of parts of tambon Wiang Sa and Ban Song,
  • Ban Song consists of the remaining parts of tambon Ban Song,
  • Khao Niphan consists of the whole tambon Khao Niphan.

There are also three " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
