Wiardi Beckman Stichting

The Wiardi Beckman Foundation ( Beckman Stichting Wiardi ) is the scientific institute of the Dutch Social Democrats ( PvdA) and has the task to establish a connection between the results of scientific research and development program of the party. She publishes a number of publications, including the monthly journal Socialisme & Democracy, organizes conferences and provides training sessions for party members. The Amsterdam-based Foundation has a small circle of permanent employees that are funded by government grants and contributions from the party, but in addition is also dependent on volunteer work.

The name of the foundation was chosen in memory of the 1904 -born socialist politician Herman Bernard Wiardi Beckman, who was provided during the Second World War for participation in the Dutch government in exile, but was arrested by the German security service in January 1942 before he fled to England and finally in March 1945, was killed in the concentration camp Dachau.

Two former employees of the Foundation, who have turned away from social democracy, made ​​now in other political contexts talked about: Femke Halsema led from 2002 to 2010 the party Groen Links, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, some deputies of the VVD; made headlines in May 2006, was listed as a fierce controversy about their deprivation of citizenship.
