Wiay, Skye

Wiay ( Scottish Gaelic: Bhuia or Fùidheigh, from the Old Norse, German: " home island " ) is an island in the southwest of the Inner Hebrides in Scotland. It is located approximately 1.4 kilometers west of Skye at the height of the place Ullinish and east of the island of Oronsay in Loch Bracadale. Wiay is 1.49 km ² in size and thus the largest island in the bay. The highest point is 60 meters.

The coast Wiays consists mainly of steep cliffs, in the south there are overhanging cliffs. Only in the Bay Camas na Cille you can go ashore. Until the mid-19th century Wiay was settled. Today in Camas are na Cille to see three ruined houses, one of which was built in the traditional style of black houses.

On the island there are two large herring gull colonies (Larus argentatus ).
