The Wieland -Gymnasium is next to the Pestalozzi -Gymnasium is one of the government schools of the city of Biberach in Baden- Württemberg. It is named after the poet Christoph Martin Wieland, who lived and worked in Biberach. Became known for this school by the so-called Biberach model.

History

Already in 1278 documented the earliest record of a grammar school and a Latin schoolmaster in Biberach. Thaddeus Plazzary founded in 1775 a so-called " Professoratsschule " in the old building (now Ochsenhauser yard ) in the high school road. In 1928, the high school, which was then the name Progymnasium and secondary school contributed to urban upper classes, expanded to full establishment. 1937, for eight years, a name change to " Horst Wessel High School for Boys " by the Bielefeld SA Sturmfiihrer Horst Wessel. Still was in Biberach the Wieland -Gymnasium secondary school as a boy, although girls were allowed to attend school. 1961, the new building in the Adenauer Allee was based on Ratzengraben. In 1962 it was renamed the " Wieland -Gymnasium ". 1978 celebrated the Wieland -Gymnasium its 700th anniversary.

On 15 November 2008 a new classroom wing, cafeteria, media center, study area and sports halls were inaugurated in the presence of Education Minister Schavan. These new buildings were constructed as part of the investment program " Future Education and Care " IZBB with which the Federal Government supports the countries in the demand-driven and expansion of all- day schools.

Student newspapers

  • The dim light appeared from 1952 to 2010 as one of the first student newspapers in Germany. Since 2010, no issue was published.
  • Venceremos appeared in 1969 as a highly controversial explanation sheet.
  • [ VER ] MESSENGERS appeared for the first time in February 2012 and is a joint student newspaper of the Wieland -Gymnasium and the Pestalozzi- Gymnasium.

School newspaper

  • The school magazine "WG -date - News from the Wieland -Gymnasium Biberach " appears four times a year. Is published by the school administration with the support of the Friends of the Wieland -Gymnasium eV friends and alumni of the WG Biberach Riss. The editors of the school paper consists largely of teachers, students and parents of the school. Topics include the current school life, actions of the SMV, themes of the Parents' Council and of the Association as well as organizational. Since issue # 1 of the school year 2008/2009 "WG currently " appears with the new school logo, a stylized head of its namesake school, Christoph Martin Wieland.

Wieland -Gymnasium drummer Corps

  • Since 1921 takes the drummer corps of the school, also known as the "WG - drummer " at the Biberach Protect hard part. The Wieland -Gymnasium drummer Corps is the second oldest group of drummers at Biberach Marksmen. Donaufahrt

A special feature in the school life of the Wieland -Gymnasium provides the annual Donaufahrt of the ninth grade. In Passau and Vienna each one rest day will take place.

Each trip is accompanied by two teachers and some " danube ride experienced " students of higher grades. These so-called " Donaufahrt mentors " because of their commitment and reliability in their own Donaufahrt selected. You get special tasks at the completion of the journey by supporting the teachers.
