Wielkopolska National Park

The National Park Greater Poland (Polish Wielkopolski Park Narodowy ) is a national park in Poland, which lies in the area of the large Polish Lake District, 15 km south of Poznan.

Generally

The character of the national park is mainly by the action of a glacier in the period prior to 70 000 - 10 000 years affected. Most of the surface forms a moraine plateau consisting of clay, sand, and sedimentary rocks. The territory of the plateau is terminated by a moraine dammed with the highest elevation of the park - the mountain Osowa (132 m asl). Selbige plateau is intersected by numerous, hollowed out by the glacial troughs and lead to a number of lakes. As the most beautiful among them shall be the equipped with two islands Góreckie lake. A special feature of the park is also in the large deposits of boulders. The largest of them, the so-called Leśników - boulder, stands as a natural monument.

Flora

In the area of the National Park around 1100 species of vascular plants was observed (200 of bryophytes, 150 lichens, 350 species of algae and 400 species of higher fungi). Mainly are here Euro - Siberian species to find, among other things, the Scots pine and Central European species, such as the oak, the beech, the Large-flowered foxglove and the White cinquefoil.

Fauna

The wildlife of the National Park of Wielkopolska is characterized by a great diversity of species. In particular, the invertebrates are extremely well represented here (over 3000 species of insects ). There is also the National Park an extensive selection of spider species. Among the most interesting species occurring here include the water spider - the only spider Poland who spends their whole life under water. The lakes are populated by numerous perch, bream, tench, pike and eels.
