The Ottakring Station is a hub of public transport on the route of the suburban line in Ottakring, the 16th district of Vienna. He is in high position between the running east -west traffic routes Thalia Street ( tram line 46, the main axis of the district ) and Hasnerstraße, between the Paltaufgasse the east and the Huttengasse in the West. It is named after the former village Ottakring after which since 1892 the whole district is named. The station stands as well as large sections of the suburban line under monument protection.

History

Located in a rural area originally, the 1890/1892 rapidly developed after the annexation to Vienna to the district, the railway station of the suburban line of the Imperial was State Railways opened in style by Otto Wagner in 1898. Next to the station a large tobacco factory of the Austrian tobacco monopoly was built at the same time that in the map in 1912 as kk Cigar factory on chien.

The suburbs line was part of the Vienna Stadtbahn, which was not adopted after the First World War by the Vienna City Administration and electrified until 1925. The line was not run by the Federal Railways in collective communion with the tram, which is why the passenger frequency remained modest. 1932, passenger services were set on the track, whereby the Ottakring station lost its original purpose and in the following decades in which the tracks were only used by freight trains, rapidly fell into disrepair. Loading tracks for the tobacco factory and the food company Julius Meinl, who ran warehouses and marmalade production in 1912 south of the station, but survived.

S-Bahn station

On April 30, 1979 decided the federal government and the province of Vienna the conversion of the suburban line to the S -Bahn. On 31 May 1987 the station was taken after extensive refurbishment and electrification work on the entire suburban line station as the S45 operating. The S-Bahn station has two side platforms (platform 1 190 m, platform 2: 170 m).

Subway station

Since December 5, 1998 is located next to the historic center of each station, also elevated and the western terminus of the subway line U3. The opening of the subway and the forecourt has been redesigned.

The station has one central and one side platform. South of the station, the parking and servicing hall Ottakring is the U3.

Escalators and stairs leading from the subway tracks at a location below the metro Structural reception hall. About a passage the platforms of the S -Bahn can be reached. It is possible to switch to the tram lines 2 and 46 as well as to several bus lines. In the immediate vicinity of the HTL Ottakring and a park-and -ride facility is located.

In the reception building of the subway station is the dedicated in 1998 Video Sculpture U-Turn the artist Margot fungus. The 3.6 -meter-high sculpture made from stainless steel consists of a " U" in the original three screens were integrated. These were related to traffic information via the Vienna transport network. In 2005, the screens were removed and the sculpture function. The 1.8 -ton steel structure was erected in 1996 on the site of the station; only then about the hall of the station building was built.

Many facilities and vehicles of the Wiener Linien are affected by paintings by anonymous sprayer. South of the station Ottakring (output Koppenstraße ) were built on a wall at the Paltaufgasse four areas created where Sprayer on behalf of the Wiener Linien four graffiti ( "Pieces "). The sprayer had previously come into conflict with the law for vandalism and had to pay damages; half of their fees for the Pieces in Ottakring was therefore retained, but with the sprayer still remained an acceptable fee. The ( anonymous ) artists called themselves " club Graffiti Union " and the four Pieces hot style 's and Characters. The murals were weathered after a few years and have been replaced by similar, but now also erode.
