Wiersdorf

Wiersdorf is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bitburg -Land.

Geography

Wiersdorf is located in the south-west Eifel, about 10 km north- west of the county town of Bitburg. The municipal area extends in a falling down to the Prüm well and occupied the western area of Bitburg reservoir. From 4.06 km ² large district 63 % are agricultural land, 21 % is forested.

History

How much of the Bitburger country was inhabited in Roman times the Wiersdorfer municipality. The Romans built in Wiersdorf a vast villa complex, which was built in six phases between the 1st and 4th century. From the Frankish graves testify number in the " Bern boiler ".
