History
The area around Wiesau in Nordgau was settled in the period before the 11th century. Wiesau was mentioned in documents for the first time in 1281 as erbuntertäniger possession of the monastery forest aces and was part of its Stiftland.
Religions
In addition to the Kreuzberg Church, the landmark of Wiesau, there is the Catholic parish church of St. Michael and the Evangelical Church of the Resurrection. The altars of the church were made from Kreuzberg Waldsassener sculptor Karl Stilp. The majority of the population is Roman Catholic.

On 1 January 1978, the former municipality Schönhaid were incorporated with parts of the municipality Leugas and Schönhaid and from the former municipality Voith Than the vilage grain Than Muckenthal and Mühlhof in the market Wiesau.
Population Development
Since the construction of the railway line Regensburg - Hof ( Saale ) and the end of World War II in May 1945, the number of residents by the inclusion of displaced persons, mostly from the Cheb region, too. Mid-90s, they leveled off at 4800-4900, currently (2006) the place has about 4300 inhabitants. The strong population loss of 12 % is due to lack of jobs and prospects for young people throughout the region.

Coat of arms
Since the market survey in 1933 Wiesau runs its own coat of arms. The red winged dragon comes from the coat of arms of the monastery forest Assen; the silver shield with a blue bar is the heraldic sign of the Landgrave of Leuchtenberg.

Wiesau is located on the main highway 93 Regensburg - courtyard with junction Wiesau and on the main road 299 Amberg - Forest Assen. Furthermore performs Wiesau the main line of the Deutsche Bahn Regensburg Oberkotzau ( yard ) with the only regional express maintenance of this route in the district on Wiesau station. Furthermore, there are bus and train connections to the neighboring Czech Republic and to Regensburg, Munich and Nuremberg.
