Meadows lies in the Bavarian Lower Main region in Aubachtal on state roads in 2305 ( German Alps Holiday Get - Baltic ) and 2905 ( Spessart - High Road).

Etymology

The basic word in name fields is a plural form of the Old High German word wisa, meaning meadow, and refers to the geographical location in the top treeless valley portion of the meadow brook (now Aubach ).

History

Meadows was first documented in 1339. It was part of the dominions of the Counts of Rieneck; In the 16th century it passed to the Electorate of Mainz, where it remained until Reichsdeputationshauptschluss.

1803 was secularized the Prince Primate von Dalberg in favor of the newly formed Principality of Aschaffenburg and fell in 1814 (now a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt) to Bavaria. Until the Bavarian municipal reform in 1972, the community was part of the district meadows Lohr. Coat of Arms History: The village of Wiesen historically belonged to the Counts of Rieneck until its extinction in 1559, then went to the Archbishopric of Mainz, who built there in the Spessart a hunting lodge.. The emblem of the stag's antlers, and half the Mainzer Rad is reminiscent of the Electorate of Mainz, to which belonged the place. The conch is the symbol of St. James. It refers to the parish church, dedicated to the saint. On the Count of Rieneck the colors are reminiscent of red and gold coat of arms. They were closely connected with the place.

Culture and sights
