Wiesensteig is a town in the district of Göppingen ( Region of Stuttgart ) in Baden- Württemberg, in the extreme southeast of the Stuttgart Region.

Geography

Geographical Location

Wiesensteig is in the upper Filstal in 575-750 meters above sea level in the district of Göppingen. At the edge of the city of Albaufstieg the A 8 runs in the direction of Ulm.

History

Wiesensteig 861 is first mentioned in a document, as there is a Benedictine monastery was founded in the 1103 Canons was established, which existed until the secularization in 1803. However, the traces of settlement date back to the Stone Age.

The city law since 1356 has the place already. It was at that time under the Counts of Helfenstein. Since 1512 the rule Wiesensteig was assigned to the Swabian kingdom Circle within the Holy Roman Empire.

Count Ulrich of Helfenstein XVII (1524-1570) and his brother Sebastian († 1564) led the 1555 Lutheran Confession in Wiesensteig one. 1562/63 took place in the reign Wiesensteig instead of a large witch trials, in which at least 63 women and men were executed as " witches and monsters ." 1567 returned Count Ulrich XVII back to the Catholic confession and took a Counter-Reformation.

In 1648 the town of Swedish soldiers was almost completely burned down. After the extinction of Helfensteiner 1627 Empire County Wiesensteig falls (over three Erbtöchter ) to two -thirds in 1642 was sold to the Electorate of Bavaria and one third to the princes von Furstenberg, who also sell its stake in 1752 to the Electorate of Bavaria. Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows " in red, a growing mountain of golden Five Silver Elephant ". The first evidence comes from the year 1482 from a footprint of a city seal, showing a growing out of a sloping mountain four elephants, the heraldic animal of the city's former masters, the Counts of Helfenstein. While the growing elephant always in all the following representations ( eg the first colored illustration from the year 1560) to find the city arms, the number of coupling between one and five changed. From 1903 to 1968 Wiesensteig was tethered by the Tälesbahn of Geislingen to the railway network. The Royal Württemberg State Railways built the station building as a unit train station of type IIIb.

By Franz Xaver Messerschmidt School Wiesensteig has a primary and secondary school with Werkrealschule.

Sports

TSV Upper Fils

The TSV Upper Fils was founded on June 24, 1972 by the merger of the two clubs TSV Wiesensteig and TSV Mühlhausen. Sports facilities are the Club at the sports ground in Wiesensteig, the school gymnasium and the old gym in the center of meadow trail. It also be used as the town hall and the old sports ground in Mühlhausen.
