Name

Etymology

The original name Wiesentau goes to the Middle High German word for bison bison and ouwe back for Aue. Thus, means to live in the meadow duck the name Bachwiese. It was in the 14th century a meaning from the name change, which has renamed the place in meadows ( bach ) tal. This name has its origin in the valley of Meadow brook (now Aubach ) where the spot is. History

Wiesthal is an old Glasmacherort and was first mentioned in the year 1057. The river separated the Aubach place earlier in two parts that belonged to the diocese of Mainz and the county Rieneck. After the extinction of the Counts of Rieneck this part of the town fell to the Archbishopric of Mainz. The office of the archbishopric of Mainz was secularized in 1803 in favor of the Prince Primate von Dalberg and fell with the Principality of Aschaffenburg 1814 ( as a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt) to Bavaria.
