Wiesweiler

Wiesweiler is a municipality in the district of Kusel, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Lauter corners.

Geography

Wiesweiler is located at Glan in the Western Palatinate. In contrast to the neighboring villages on the Glan community was not applied to a tributary einmündendem but directly on the slopes of Glantals. In the northeast and southwest Lauterecken is located Offenbach- dog home.

History

The town developed from the two originally separate villages Berschweiler, east of the glans located, and Wiesweiler, on the west side. They were first mentioned in 1336 and 1364 as Winsewilre Bernswilre documented. While Wiesweiler was part of the county Veldenz, Berschweiler belonged to the Rhinegraves. In the 15th century the villages were united. 1558 buys Ludwig, Count Palatine of Pfalz- Veldenz the place.

1816 the place with the Principality of Lichtenberg, a newly exclave of the duchy of Saxe -Coburg -Saalfeld, respectively in 1826 the duchy of Saxe -Coburg and Gotha. With this he fell to Prussia in 1834, which the district Sankt Wendel created from this area. After separation of the main part of the newly created Saar was built in 1920 the remainder circle St. Wendel - Baumholder, to which the place belonged until 1937, when he was incorporated into the district of Birkenfeld. In 1969, he was reclassified in the district of Kusel.

Through the village the main road runs 420 The Glantalbahn section of Wiesweiler is shut down. On it there is a trolley traffic for day trippers. In Lauterecken is a railway station of Lauterbrunnen Valley Railway.
