Wietze (Aller)

Wietze 20 km between Melle village and Fuhrberg

Geography

The river is formed by the confluence of Edder and Flöth northeast of Hanover at Altwarmbuchen. From there, the water flows a few kilometers to the west through southern Isernhagen to Langenhagen and from then on only in a northerly direction to the point Wietze to close behind to lead from the south in the Aller.

The Wietze pervades in the second half of their mostly straightened river course a sprawling valley with the predominantly mucky Wietzenbruch, an approximately 400 square kilometers of forest and swamp forest area. At its eastern edge lies the Cellesche district Wietzenbruch. A large part of the drinking water of the city of Hanover is conveyed in the lowlands of Wietze.

The Wietze continues the flow direction of the near Hanover swinging west line to the north. The river's name is derived from wizene ( elm river).
