Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism

This guide explains how best to vorgehst in combating vandalism.

Principle

If you have discovered vandalism, you should revert him first, but only if you're sure! In doubtful cases, it is better to dispense with a Revert. Blank, but serious changes you should revert only with regard to the evidence required. The same is true for other things that do not belong in articles, but there are no obvious vandalism (like comments or questions rather than incorrectly in the article text written on the talk page, or inappropriate links, club lists, Newsticker ... ). It is useful also to check on all resets if the user has already made more nonsense posts, and whether the item was affected more often lately of vandalism.

Vandalism messages

User

  • When obviously new dials in the same vandal after a barrier and continue to mischief under a new IP address, you should at the message point out first and ask for protection of the affected side. In particularly difficult cases, entire IP ranges (CIDR address ranges ) can be locked (see also Help: User lock ).
  • Some vandals put on a user account, instead of editing pages under their IP address. Such accounts are usually locked indefinitely in clear cases. In clear vandal accounts (see examples above) you should not respect the user name have, but be brave and admonish them and report. The situation is different for keyboard testing or processing errors by newcomers. References here on the playground or the mentor program.
  • Users with inappropriate user names should also be reported, as possible before they can edit pages with their user account. Unsuitable usernames that contain abusive language or insulting (example ) or to an existing user name are very similar and thus provide for likelihood of confusion. User name with personal insults should be reported directly but a Oversight guardian.

Pages

  • Items you should report only when it ( unregistered user ) and if there was lately a lot of vandalism by multiple IPs significantly more vandal edits as meaningful edits. Are not reported articles, in which only irregularly vandalism occurs over months. A typical case of a message looks like that in recent weeks almost daily vandalism occurs and the version history for this period consists only of Reverts ( but no earlier than should be usually reported from the fourth vandals within a month). If an item is suddenly " surprise attack " of vandalism hit (example), it should be reported so that a short side protection can be imposed.
  • Templates you should report if they are frequently involved in articles ( at least 500 integrations ), even if no vandalism has occurred yet. Since vandalism can have far- reaching consequences in templates, they can proactively protected.
