Wilbert McClure

Wilbert McClure, aka Skeeter ( born October 29, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio, USA ) is a former American middleweight boxer.

Amateur

McClure won the 1958 national " Golden Gloves " tournament, as well as 1959 and 1960, the U.S. Championship light middleweight. Also at the Pan American Games in 1959 in Chicago, he took first place in his weight class.

He was subsequently nominated for the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome and won the gold medal in the light middleweight there. In the final, he defeated the Italians Carmelo Bossi on points.

Professional career

His fourteen victories scoring professional career started already in 1961. In January 1963, he defeated the Croats in Dortmund Nick Maric and in December 1967 he lost in London against the British John Pritchett. Apart from these two fights, McClure fought exclusively in the USA. In 1966, he boxed twice against Rubin Carter, lost the first battle, and reached in the second match a draw. In 1970, he finished his career.
