Wilbur Scoville

Wilbur Lincoln Scoville ( born January 22, 1865 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, † November 11, 1942 in Gainesville, Florida ) was an American pharmacologist.

He worked at the pharmaceutical company Parke Davis, 1912 when he devised a test to measure the sharpness of chili peppers, called the Scoville Organoleptic Test ( sl Scoville scale). The content of capsaicin by dilution to the perception threshold is measured indirectly.

He received two awards from the American Pharmaceutical Association: 1929 Ebert Prize and 1929, the Remington Honor Medal. Also in 1929, he is a Doctor Honoris Causa of Columbia University was awarded.
