Band History

The first albums

Wilco was founded in 1994 by members of the defunct band Uncle Tupelo. The first albums AM and Being There are still very strongly oriented to countryesk - folky sound and marked by melancholy ballads. The third album Summerteeth Country contains less elements than its predecessor, but still has the hitherto typical Wilco sound. A caesura introduced the more experimental, remanufactured with electronic sounds and samples album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002) dar. Traditional oriented fans refused as renegades, but it reached a large audience and became the most successful new Wilco album. It reached number 12 in the U.S. album charts and made Wilco after the first, primarily critically acclaimed albums and beyond the United States known.

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot The dispute over

Have contributed to the success of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot like that Jeff Tweedy had waged a long legal battle with the record company Warner Music Group to the artistic freedom of the band related to the album. In 2004, the successor of A Ghost is Born, which again worked in a consistent continuation of the chosen Yankee Hotel Foxtrot with path with electronic sounds and samples appeared. It even reached number 8 on the Billboard charts and brought Wilco 2005, two Grammy Awards, including among others for the best alternative album.

On May 11, 2007 she released a new Wilco album, Sky Blue Sky. Two weeks before the release date you could hear the whole album as a stream on the official website of Wilco.

On 26 June 2009 Wilco's seventh studio album, Wilco released (the album). Sings on this album as a visiting Leslie Feist You and I. The album was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as album of the year 2009. The publication was part of the death of the retired in 2001 Wilco member Jay Bennett - Ur, who died suddenly on 24 May 2009, overshadowed.

The Whole Love

In September 2011, the studio album The Whole Love was released. After Wilco's contract ended with Nonesuch Records, the album was released from the new band's own label DBPM. The piece I might end of June 2011 was pre-published on the band's official website as a web stream. The Whole Love was selected by both the critics and the readers of the German " Rolling Stone " to the " Album of the Year 2011".

Mermaid Avenue

On the initiative of Nora Guthrie Wilco set to music in a joint project with Billy Bragg lyrics from the legacy of her father, the legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie. The two recorded in Dublin " Mermaid Avenue " albums of 1998 and 2000 were evaluated very positively by fans and critics.
