Wilde Gera

The Wilde Gera is one of the two sources of Gera on the northern slope of the Thuringian Forest. It is longer and richer in water than the other source river, the Tame Gera. In its 23 km long run it overcomes about 570 meters of altitude, which corresponds to an average gradient of 25 vertical meters per flow kilometers.

Geography

The sources of the Wild Gera are only a few meters north of the Rennsteig in the area between Accessorize and Oberhof. The longest river is the source Schmücker ditch. He springs from the black puddle and the Gunter man fountains and flows first in a northerly direction. To the east of the creek is the snow head ( 978 m); west of the Great Beer mountain ( 983 m), the highest mountains in Thuringia. The Schmücker trench increases from left nor the Steinbach before it flows in a wide arc to the east. Later he takes then left the saddle Bach and Bach on the beak. This place is called as it should be there ostensibly as dark as in the jungles of Cameroon Cameroon. Now you can see the east portal of the tunnel Brandleite. The railway line Neudietendorf - Ritschenhausen is thus the first traffic route in the valley of the Wild Gera. This flows from here to the east in the Gehlberger reason where train station of Gehlberg and Gehlberger mill located. In Gehlberger reason the Wilde Gera takes from the right snow crucible and the nobleman Bach on. The village itself is left on a plateau about 730 meters above sea level. The altitude of the valley is at Gehlberger station still 598 meters. Below the Gehlberger reason the valley is narrow again and the wild Gera again makes an arc to the north. Here, about 13 km long occurs, built 1977 to 1981 Gera tunnel to light. He directs water from the Wild Gera northwest into the Ohratalsperre. Since the Gehlberger mill there is also a road that connects the village to Gräfenroda in the valley.

The valley widens again. To the west to start a new valley, the Kehltal. This is about five miles long. In it, a road runs to Oberhof, which forms the western end of the valley. The valley is also the escape tunnel of the Rennsteig tunnel. On the left slope of the Burnt Stone, a late 17th century to build the Lütsche - Flößgrabens can be seen driven in a porphyry block tunnel. After a left turn is the most impressive building in the Valley of Wild Gera visible: the Viaduct Wilde Gera A 71 It is 110 meters high. After the bridge, the valley is once again very tight. The railway line disappearing here in the 104.5 -meter-long tunnel at coercion. Located northwest of the tunnel opens out from the right Schwarzenbach. In its two-kilometer long valley there is also a bridge of A 71, the Viaduct Schwarzbach. Links on the hillside the robbery Castle is visible, a ruined castle in the medieval robber barons had their hideout. After about 200 meters from the left leads the Sieglitz in the wild Gera one. It is about four kilometers long and also originates near Oberhof.

Now, the valley widens considerably and the first sawmill Dörrenberg, a present-day hamlet of Gräfenroda can be seen. Dörrenberg evolved from a hammer mill and has about 100 inhabitants. Gräfenroda is an elongated village street, which extends over about five kilometers in the valley of the Wild Gera. The wide meadow valley, forming the Wilde Gera Dörrenberg is called Gräfenrodaer reason. From left here leads one of the longest tributary in the Wilde Gera: the Lütsche, an approximately seven kilometers long river. Links extends the Gräfenrodaer Kichholz by which the Ohrabahn pulls a tight curve. The Wilde Gera was moved to the eastern edge of their valley in Gräfenrodaer local area. It passes under the B88 at the station Gräfenroda - place of Ohrabahn. The railway line from Erfurt to Schweinfurt here leads further up the eastern side of the valley along. On Gräfenrodaer pool Wild Gera crosses under the road from Gräfenroda after Plaue. Here the Gräfenrodaer Ried begins. The slopes on either side are no longer as high as above the village. Gräfenroda now extends even over about two kilometers. At the northern end of the village to unite the Ohrabahn and the railway line from Erfurt to Schweinfurt in Gräfenroda station.

On the left bank is seen halfway between Gräfenroda and love stone ground mill. A little further north begins the 400 - inhabitant village love stone. Eye-catcher is the castle love stone on the valley slopes. It was built in the 12th century to protect the valley from the counts to Kevernburg. In Love Stone joins from the left in the Gissel Wild Gera. It is a small stream, which is often dry in the summer. Your sources are located near the town of Franconia grove. Behind love stone the valley is so wide that agriculture is possible. Here seeps a large part of the river in karst columns. The left side of the valley is still steep and forms the Plaueschen mountain, the right side of the valley rises gently until after Rippersroda. Right now, the valley opens up and the Tame Gera can be seen. On the left side of the valley is already in Plaue, the Plauesche Spring, a karst spring with very high discharge volume from which comes the love seeped behind stone water with high temporal offset back to daily. One explanation for the high temporal offset from the river could be an object located far underground large water reservoir. Now the wild Gera crosses under even the former B4, before they located south of the center of Plaue with the Zahmen Gera Gera for united.
