Wilderness ( Afrikaans: wilderness ) is a coastal town on the Garden Route in the town of George (municipality ), District Eden, Western Cape in South Africa. In 2011 the town had 6,164 inhabitants. The city is located about 445 kilometers east of Cape Town and 315 km west of Port Elizabeth.

History and location

In 1877, George Bennet bought a farm here, which he called Wilderness. He chose this name probably because it was so difficult to achieve. Through the Wilderness National Road N2 runs.
