Wilfred Bungei

Wilfred Bungei ( Wilfred Kipkemboi Bungei; born July 24, 1980 in Kabirirsang at Kapsabet ) is a Kenyan middle distance runner who specialized route is the 800 -meter run. He won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

He started running at the age of 17 years and initially focused on the 400 meters. In 1998 he moved to twice the distance and in the same year Junior Vice World Champion.

At the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001 he won the silver medal in 1:44,55 min. In 2002, he presented with 1:42,34 min on his best time and therefore occupies the fifth place in the eternal worlds best list (as of July 2008).

In 2003 he won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham and won the IAAF World Athletics Final IAAF.

In the 2004 Olympics he was on the fifth place. The following year he was fourth at the World Championships in Helsinki and again won the IAAF World Athletics Final.

In 2006, he won the title at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow and was third in the World Final. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he finished fifth.

Bungei is 1,78 m tall and weighs 64 kg. It is known that he often denies his race with a pair of sunglasses. His cousin is the former world record holder Wilson Kipketer.
