Wilfrid Jasper Walter Blunt

Wilfrid Jasper Walter Blunt ( born July 19, 1901 in Ham, † January 8, 1987 in Guildford ) was a British teacher and author of non-fiction books.

Life

Wilfrid Blunt is the eldest son of Arthur Stanley Vaughan Blunt and Hilda master. His two brothers are Christopher Evelyn Blunt (1904-1987) and Anthony Blunt ( 1907-1983 ).

From 1914 to 1920, he was educated at Marlborough College, then went to Worcester College, Oxford, moved to the studio of modernity in Paris and made in 1923 graduated from the Royal College of Art in London.

He taught from 1923 to 1938 at Haileybury College and from 1938 to 1959 at Eton College art.

With the assistance of his friend William Thomas Stearn he wrote the highly acclaimed book The Art of Botanical Illustration, published in 1950, and extensively studied the history of botanical drawings.

After his retirement, he was from 1959 to 1985 curator of the Watts Museum in Compton, and devoted himself entirely to writing, art-related in general, biographies. Among them you will The Compleat Naturalist: A Life of Linnaeus also a biography of Linnaeus.

Honors

For his book The Art of Botanical Illustration, he received the Royal Horticultural Society, the Veitch Memorial Medal.
